Greenwood “Our Home” Session

I believe there is magic in a space, once you’ve settled in, that makes it someplace you’ll return to in memory forever

Last summer it felt like everyone I knew was moving. Either buying homes or moving to a bigger rental. When my sister called one summer evening asking, “Am I crazy to consider buying this home?” I was surprised but also delighted. We’re lucky enough to both be living in the same city for the first time in our adult lives after my move to Seattle in 2022, and it is my not so secret desire to keep it that way for a while.

After spotting the perfect house on a casual scan of Zillow one day, Kathryn and her husband, Lucas, went from renters to homeowners in less than two months. Although it was an exciting new space they were moving into, the house they were renting had a lot of important memories for them that they were sad to leave behind.

To mark this transition from one phase of life to the next, we planned an in-home documentary session to capture the beauty of the space they had created a home in together.

The place that was a safe refuge after a bad apartment. This place where they celebrated “Not our Wedding Day” when their first date had to be postponed. The place where Kathryn put on her wedding dress for their civil ceremony. The space that held countless memories of slow evenings and weekends reading side by side. The place where they prepared for and recovered from all of their outdoor adventures. The space that held so many of their friends for gatherings, sharing favorite foods and records. The space they loved in spite of and at times because of all the little quirks and imperfections that made it unique.

All of the many tiny elements that make a house a home, we tried to capture it all in just a handful of hours before the packing began to transition to the new space.
