Hencmann Family | Documentary Family Photography

June 8, 2016

I’m so excited to share these photos! Documentary work has always held a special place in my heart, but I never wanted to chase the gritty stories. I was more interested in the stories of everyday people, what makes their life unique and special to them.

I love the idea of providing families with lasting memories of their everyday routine, what life was like at that stage of their family. All of the joys, tears, and moments that comprise a regular day.

This was my first try at a full day session, 7am-8pm. It was exhausting and amazing and so much fun!

I got to know the Hencmanns only recently, after they moved to Sonoma from Colorado to start an ice cream shop on Sonoma Square.  As a connoisseur of good ice cream, they won me over from the beginning. Their shop is so sweet, and the flavor combinations they come up with are unique and delightful, just like them!

It was so much fun to see how they embrace the life of running your own business. They make a point to use the freedom of schedule to create an abundance of family time around the day’s work. There were stories, ladybugs, leprechaun hunts, visits with friends, and, of course, ice cream.

This is such rewarding work, I can’t wait to do many more sessions like this one!
